Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shekhar Koirala has remarked that the party has not been functioning in a systematic manner. He alleged that party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba himself has been violating the system.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the 21st Memorial Day of late Mangala Devi Singh on the occasion of Nepal Women Association Banepa in Kavre on Tuesday, leader Koirala said that party President Deuba breached the system by appointing leader Bimalendra Nidhi as acting president of the party during his recent India visit.
“It’s true that Bimalendra Ji is a senior leader. But, who has stopped him from being appointed as vice-president?” said Koirala. “Nobody would have objected, had he been given the acting president post by appointing him vice-president first.”
He claimed that the move to appoint acting president by brushing aside other senior leaders, party general secretary, treasurer, and former general secretary has send a wrong message. He also criticised PM Deuba for standing as a mute-spectator to the arbitrary activities of the ministers from ruling coalition party.
He claimed that the party won’t be able to win expected seats in the upcoming third-phase of local level elections if the election tickets were distributed without consulting the senior leaders.
“The party has been preparing to select election candidates only by consulting the central leaders of Province 2,” he said. “The attempt to distribute election tickets without consulting senior leaders such as Ramchandra Poudel, KB Gurung, Krishna Sitaula, and Prakash Man Singh would create problem.”
He claimed that the party’s problem is disloyalty, and regardless of any efforts to unite the party, 15-20 percent of disloyalty will remain. He added that those betraying the party should be banished from the society and politically, apart from taking action against them.
He further said due to factionalism there are wrong perceptions about the party. He noted that the leaders should get over the bitterness as factionalism will only weaken the party.
