Road caves in along Araniko Highway, vehicular movement halted

A section of the road in Sakhuwa began to sink from Saturday morning which collapsed today bringing the traffic to a complete stand still.
Likewise, landslides triggered by incessant rains have occurred in over dozen of areas including Sirise, Daklang, Jhirpu along the road section.
Barabise Area Police Office informed that efforts are underway to repair the damaged road section, however, they are facing difficulties in resuming works as areas nearby have developed fissures.
“Earlier, it was just the road that caved in, but now landslides have started to occur at various places,” said Police Inspector Pancha Kumar Bakhu, “As a result, passengers and tourists are left stranded.”
Inspector Bakhu further informed that landslides have frequented along the road section with the beginning of monsoon season adding that security personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed for security.
