Lawmakers including those from the ruling parties have registered 50 revisions
to the second constitution amendment bill that was registered in the House on April 11.
The ruling parties and the Ratriya Janata Party-Nepal have submitted one proposal to amend five provisions while the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal has registered another amendment.
The remaining 48 proposals were registered by the opposition parties—34 by the
main opposition CPN-UML seeking revision to all the 11 points in the bill.
“All the lawmakers registering amendment will present their proposal on Sunday,” Bharat Raj Gautam, spokesperson for the Parliament Secretariat, told the Post.
All the 50 proposals and the amendment bill would be tabled for voting on Monday, he added.
In the amendment proposed by the ruling alliance, an additional clause has been demanded in Article 7 of the constitution to enlist all the languages recommended by the Language Commission in the annex.
This would allow the provinces to choose national languages from among the recommendations.
The main opposition has registered revision to the proposed amendment to Article 86 (2) (a), which seeks to bar chiefs and deputy chiefs of municipalities and rural municipalities from the electoral college that will elect the National Assembly.
