President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Basanta Ram Bhandari as the Attorney General on Wednesday.
Earlier, Bhandari was running for the chair position in Nepal Bar Association election.
Bhandari, who has a long experience in legal profession, was appointed government's chief legal advisor, two months after Sher Bahadur Deuba was elected Prime Minister of Nepal.
Raman Shrestha, who was appointed as the Attorney General during the government of CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, had worked two months for the Deuba-led government.
