The supporters of Dr Govinda KC have started a relay hunger protest in Pokhara to show their solidarity with the doctor, who has been staging a hunger strike at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in the Capital for the past 22 days.
The protest, organised by Pokhara Civil Society, began on Monday with a tree plantation programme at Shahid Park.
The strike participants said they will continue their non-violent resistance until Dr KC’s demands are addressed. Dr KC, a senior orthopaedic surgeon at the TUTH, is staging the fast-unto-death protest demanding reforms in the country’s medical education sector by passing the Medical Education Bill.
This is the 11th time he has resorted to a hunger strike as the government time and again reneged on its commitment to address his demand.
