CPN-UML Syangja district vice-chairman Uday Shrestha has filed his nomination for the post of Waling municipality mayor as an independent candidate to contest in the upcoming local level election after the party granted the ticket to the post to another candidate.
Shrestha filed his nomination after the party picked Punya Prasad Aryal over him even after an internal voting of party district cadres showed the rogue UML leader victorious over other aspirants.
A UML district cadre said that Shrestha was denied ticket due to severe factionalism inside the party as party cadres from Waling had support for the rejected leader.
Shrestha had garnered 75 votes against 64 of Aryal and Mohan Regmi who secured 54 votes during the internal voting.
