At least 50 houses were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out at a Dalit settlement in Simaraha of Sakhuwa Nankarkatti-8, Siraha district on Monday evening.
According to DSP Ram Krishna Chaudhary of the District Police Office, Siraha, the fire started from a stack of paddy straw belonging to Hari Narayan Mandal and spread to the settlement.
Property worth around Rs 15 million was destroyed in the fire, informed DSP Chaudhary.
The blaze was doused four hours later with the help of fire engines, police and the locals.
"The losses could have been reduced if the fire was contained immediately,” Chaudhary said.
The cause behind the fire is yet to be established. RSS
