The Election Commission (EC) has said it will not call international observers for monitoring local level polls slated for May 14. “It is not necessary to invite international observers, as the country is holding elections at the local level only,” said the EC.
International observers were not invited during the last two local polls held in 1992 and 1997. We are following the same tradition,” said Surya Sharma, spokesperson for the EC. Nepal is holding local level elections after two decades.
The EC, however, has asked the Nepal-based foreign diplomatic missions to send their teams to monitor the elections. (PR)
