CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has warned that his party would boycott voting and take to the streets if the government endorsed the constitution amendment bill registered at the Legislature-Parliament.
He argued that the House should be boycotted because the endorsement of amendment motion would be detrimental to the nation. “The CPN-UML is committed to national interests,” said Oli, inaugurating the CPN-UML central front organisation committee’s national assembly in Pokhara, Kaski on Sunday. He asserted that the constitution amendment bill should not be endorsed under any circumstances given the government’s intention and content of the bill.
Asserting that there is no room for correcting or revising the amendment bill, the UML Chairman reiterated that the bill should be withdrawn. He added that the constitution could be amended if any problems arise during its implementation.
He opined that the constitution isn’t bereft of anything when it comes to nationality, democracy, social justice, equality and granting rights and opportunities to the people. He, however, acknowledged that there are certain complexities to operate the state. He went on to claim that the amendment bill is driven by the objective to deteriorate Nepal by weakening the geographical integrity rather than taking the nation onto the path of prosperity by strengthening the national unity.
He further said it would only be an illusion to say that the attempt to segregate the people of Tarai and hill is for the good of people. He alerted the government towards the possible adverse effect if it tried to push the amendment bill through the parliament.
Saying that there is no alternative to elections, the UML chairman alleged that the government is conspiring to put off the election or to never hold it. He claimed that the government doesn’t want to hold the election fearing that the UML might sweep the election.
“Though the government reiterates that it will hold elections, there is no situation to trust it. Otherwise the government should’ve enacted laws and tabled the election related bills,” said Oli.
He claimed that conspiracies are rife to wipe out the country in the name of language, citizenship, religion, and culture by abusing the diversity of Nepal. He called on the party cadres to prepare for the elections so as to ensure the party’s victory with majority.
