Locals and political parties have enforced vehicular strike in Kalaiya, headquaretrs of Bara district, demanding the municipality be declared sub-metropolitan city.

Vehicular movement along the Kalaiya-Birgunj road section was obstructed in protest led by Kalaiya Chamber of Commerce & Industries.

Kalaiya CCI acting Chairman Binod Barai said they were demanding for declaring the Bara district headquarters as sub-metropolitan city. "Kalaiya should be declared sub-metropolitan city keeping all the VDCs intact," he said.

The Local Level Restructuring Commission has suggested one sub-metropolitan, five municipality and seven Gaupalika in Kalaiya which has sparked protests in the city.
