A one-horned rhinoceros was found dead in a corn field at Gaidakot, Nawalparasi on Monday.  

The adult rhino was found dead at the field of one Om Kanta Sapkota in Gairi, Gaidakot-7 in the district early this morning.

There was a ruckus amongst the locals after they saw the rhino in their area. However, they realised that the animal was dead as it didn't react to the noises.

Mukundasen Area Forest Office Assistant Forest Officer Ishwor Wagle suspected that the pachyderm could have died while eating the corn contaminated with long-term pesticides. He, however, said that the actual cause of the death can only be determined after a postmortem of the animal.

A team of veterinarians from Chitwan National Park will conduct a postmortem on the animal after the police record the statements from the locals.
