In an appeal to public posted on his personal website on Thursday, Karki claimed that the accusations against him were biased, unrealistic and illusive and it was designed and influenced by a group of people under CIAA investigation or those in the process being investigated.
The statement comes at a time when Karki faces a case challenging his qualification for holding the CIAA helm and an impeachment motion registered against him at Parliament.
The Supreme Court has been conducting hearings on a petition challenging Karki’s qualification for holding the post of CIAA chief. He appeared before the SC on Thursday to record his statement in the case.
He has claimed that those amassing disproportionate property, accumulating huge property abroad, protectors of carterling and syndicate, some media houses evading taes and practicing yellow journalism and definitely the top level bureaucrats and politicians afraid of being exposed were behind the campaign to bring the charges against him.
He has requested those accusing him of allegations to come up with convincing evidences to prove the charges.
Stating that Nepali people’s expectation was prevalence of rule of law, good governance, corruption-free society and prosperity, Karki said that his deeds as the CIAA Chief were in accordance with the law and the will of the people.
He further said that as CIAA chief he has seen how the corruption is thriving in Nepali society. “It is evident that CIAA has initiated and intervened into a number of areas as part of its efforts to discourage the rampant corruption and punish the guilty,” Karki noted in his statement.
Karki hoped that he will get justice with the grace of ‘Almighty’ and will be able to get rid of all the baseless and vindictive accusations. He further said that he will continue his fight against corruption even if he couldn’t get justice to remain in the post due to the power of ‘devil forces’.
The suspended CIAA chief has said that he will expose the dynamics of the involvement of various political leaders in the corruption charges when the right time comes. “At that moment, the faces of corruption will be unveiled and their deceit revealed,” he said in his long statement.
Expressing his firm determination to fight against corruption under any circumstance till his last breath, Karki has stated, “Only the time ahead will decide the fate of the corrupt-practitioners and the destiny of a fore-fighter like me.”
