Christians demand X-Mas holiday
The Federation of National Christian has demanded restoration of public holiday on Christmas Day.
The Federation of National Christian has demanded restoration of public holiday on Christmas Day.
After the country was declared secular republic, the government had announced public holiday on Christmas Day, the greatest festival of Christians.
Later the KP Sharma Oli-led government had excluded the Christmas leave from the list of the national holidays and declared public holiday only for government employees who follow Christianity.
“Now, we demand that the government restore the earlier provision and declare public holiday on Christmas Day (December 25),” said CB Gahatraj, president of the federation at a press conference. “We want implementation of a pact that we had reached with the Ministry of Culture.”
Human rights activist Charan Prasai said all the citizens living in the country irrespective of the fact what religion they follow should be treated equally by the state.
