Railway equipment and accessories are gathering dust, literally, after Nepal Railways closed services three years ago for the construction of Janakpur-Jayanagar, the only railway line in the country, broad-gauge track.
Engines are rusting away with concerned authorities failing to take proper care of them. Eighteen employees have been deputed to look after the railway property, but they seem to have turned a blind eye to it.
Locals said at a time when the locomotives were not functional, the property could be managed properly with a view to attracting tourists.
Railway and Metro Department engineer Binod Ojha said, “Protecting railway accessories does not fall under our responsibility.”
