The Rara National Park (RNP) is yet to provide land compensation to around 1,100 families of Shreenagar, Karkibada and Pina VDCs even four decades after the land acquisition.
Residents of Shreenagar, Chain, Chhatyalbada, Phuli, Talitum, Nigale, Karkibada, Hennikadh, Pina, Sayakhola, Mathitum, Topla and Jhayari among other villages were displaced.
Owners of over 100 ropanis of private land in Shreenagar, Karkibada and Pina VDCs have not received land compensation yet.
Gagan Bahadur Malla of Shreenagar said the locals “have been frequently visiting” the Department of Forests and Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation for compensation amount, but to no avail.
The RNP had provided Rs 3.2 million land compensation to the residents of Seri last year. Dilli Malla of Shirnagar said compensation was provided only to those villagers who are backed by “well-connected people”.
RNP Conservation Officer Mohanchandra Bishwokarma said the land owners of Pina VDCs had not filed applications for the land compensation.
According to the RNP, the park covers the land of Kanaka Sundari, Bumramadichaur and Botamalika in Jumla and Shreenagar, Karkibada, Pina, Rara, Seri and Khama VDCs in Mugu district.
