The incessant rainfall since Monday night has flooded many parts of Jhapa district.
According to District Police Office, Jhapa, some of the settlements of land-less squatters have been inundated due to the flood in Mechi River, while Lakhanpur has been submerged after Ratuwa River flooded.
Floods in the Kankai and Birang rivers have affected the southern VDCs of the districts. Police said a few cattle and livestock have gone missing.
Major rivers including Kamal, Ratuwa, and Tangting have been flooded affecting the nearby VDCs. “We have been collecting data on the exact damage and loss due to the flood,” said DSP Hari Prashad Sharma.
According to Nepal Red Cross Society, the flooding has posed threat to 8 municipalities and 24 VDCs of the district. Deputy chief of the district, Govinda Adhikari informed that they have been working to minimise the risk of floods and requested the people to stay in safer place.
