Nine hundred and forty-four displaced families from Hanspur VDC in Gorkha, the epicentre of the April 25 earthquake last year, have received the first instalment of the housing reconstruction aid so far.
The Rs50,000 cash was deposited in the accounts of the homeless families after the District Development Committee released the sum. The villagers received the amount three months after they signed the aid agreement.
However, hundreds of other homeless people who had already signed the agreements have not received the aid.
Though the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) claimed to release the first instalment within a week of aid agreement, the needy are yet to get the amount in the lack of their bank accounts.
Earthquake survivors are left in the lurch due to the delayed reconstruction programme. Aid agreements have been signed in Hansapur, Barpak, Gumda and Saurpani VDCs.
The NRA made public its fresh list of 60 VDCs and two municipalities last week for aid agreement. Officials deployed for paperwork have not arrived, delaying the deals, secretary for Borlang VDC Mohan Prasad Dahal told the Post.
