Locals of 5 VDCs benefit from ‘food for work’

The organisation, under its “food for work” programmes, has provided 45 kilograms of rice and Rs 2,700 to 3,013 families for working for 18 days.
Harka Devi Bohara of Syadi said she had worked along the Syadi-Lim stretch and received the said amount of rice and money. “It was a great relief in the time of prolonged drought,” she said.
Seventeen projects were carried out under the programme. Villagers worked in six irrigation canals, three rural roads, two drinking water projects and three small hydropower projects among others under the programme.
The District Food Security Network of Nepal Food Corporation estimates that people in 17 VDCs could face acute food shortage this year due to prolonged drought.
