Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato, who is currently undergoing treatment at Haryana-based Medanta hospital, is gradually recovering, the hospital sources said.
He has been admitted to Orthopaedic Trauma Unit at the hospital for the past four days.
Doctors attending to him said he has vitamin D deficiency and needs nutritious food due to weakness. Mahato was injured during a clash between Madhesi Morcha cadres and police personnel at Biratnagar-Jogbani border on December 26 and was flown to Delhi on January 1.
“Leader Mahato is slowly getting better. He has been suggested not to do anything such as hunger strike that would cause stress to his body,” Dr Subhanka Singh told the Post.
The doctors took CT Scan, X-ray and MRI of leader Mahato’s body because it was swollen and his fingers were fractured. Doctors of blood pressure, diabetes specialist, and nervous system specialist, among other seven specialist doctors, attended to Mahato.
Mahato, who has been admitted to a special care unit of the hospital, is accompanied by his wife Shaila Mahato, party aide Shailesh Shah and local journalist Pankaj Das.
A team of orthopaedic, neurology and neurosurgery doctors kept him under observation for two days.
According to a hospital source, Mahato will be discharged from the hospital if his blood-sugar level remains stable and his health condition continues to improve.
Earlier, Mahato was brought to Kathmandu from Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) before being flown to Delhi.
