Fifteen Nepali Congress members of Rukum, including district president, have resigned from the party en masse citing that the district was split to merge into two separate states in the new federal set-up.
The party leaders and cadres submitted a collective resignation letter to Prime Minister and NC President Sushil Koirala on Monday.
The disgruntled party members said they quit the party as the district was divided despite repeated assurance from the top leadership of the major political parties to keep the district intact.
According to proposed demarcation of federal borders, the eastern Rukum now lies in state no. 5 and western Rukum lies in state no. 6.
The Unified Rukum Struggle Committee had enforced shutdown in Rukum for the past 17 days against the decision to disintegrate the district.
