Buchi village residents at Jagannath in Dailekh continuously live in fear of being swept by landslides that have been ongoing for years.Prakash Adhikari
Local Janak Adhikari claimed that 22 households have abandoned their houses for safer areas. “We completely left everything behind as landslides have started towards the village. Around 32 houses have been affected,” claimed another local Top Bahadur Shahi. Shahi along with his family members recently migrated in fear of being swept away by landslip. He was of the opinion that the whole village would be swept away in no time if the landslides are not controlled.
Locals lamented on the fact that concerned authorities have taken no preventive measures despite landslides occuring in the area every year.
“All concerned authorities in the district are aware of the problem. They should relocate the affected families to safer areas and should soon come up with a long term plan to control the disaster,” said a local teacher Ram Bahadur Shahi. Locals have knocked on the district headquarter and called on local political leaders urging them to resolve the problem at the earliest, but to no avail.
