Israel ‘ready’ to support Nepal in farm sector
Visiting Israeli Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Yair Shamir on Friday said his government was ready to support on modern agricultural technology.“We are happy to train Nepali farmers in Israel. It has helped farmers to develop new skills for the way in which they farm,” he said at an interaction organised by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
During his two-day Nepal visit, Shamir met his Nepali counterpart Hari Prasad Parajuli and discussed the possible cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture. “We are looking into the possibility of establishing agricultural demonstration farms in Nepal, so that we could share Israeli agro-technology more easily,” said Shamir.
He invited Parajuli to grace the Agritech International Agricultural Technologies Exhibition that will be held during April 28-30 in Tel Aviv, Israel. Israel is rich with technology like micro irrigation, water management, high crops productivity, post harvest, modern dairy among others, he said, adding that this modern farm technique can be transformed to Nepal. Currently, 500 Nepali farmers are receiving agriculture training in Israel.
Parajuli said Israeli farming technique, which is gaining popularity, could be very useful to Nepal at the time when the country is moving forward with the goal to commercialize the farm sector.
The visit of Shamir marks the beginning of the programs to celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Israel.
