A meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) leaders at Parliamentary Party Office in Singhadurbar on Monday ended without reaching any agreement on the party charter.
Leaders attending the meeting left the NC Parliamentary Party Office in Singha Durbar after consensus eluded the meeting. The issue will now be up for discussion in the Mahasamiti meeting.
Two rival factions of the party have agreed to increase the number of office bearers to eight from current six but are divided over the number of elected office bearers and those to be nominated by the party president. Leaders have agreed on party president, two vice presidents, two general secretaries, two joint general secretaries and one treasurer.
Ram Chandra Poudel faction has batted for holding election for all the office bearers but establishment faction under Sher Bahadur Deuba are reiterating for empowering party president to nominate at least one vice president, general secretary, joint general secretary and the treasurer.
The agreement from the meeting was to be endorsed by the Central Working Committee (CWC) on Monday but as consensus eluded the meeting, the CWC meeting could not take place.
Some leaders said they will try to forge a consensus on the issue before it reaches the Mahasamiti meeting. However, they also added the Mahasamiti meet may also has to settle it through voting.
