Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth said the reconstruction of Jabdighat bridge over Babai river in Bardiya will start from Sunday.
In August, 2017, the bridge had caved in due to a flood triggered by incessant rainfall, disrupting the vehicular movement along the Gulariya-Rammapur road that links northern Bardiya with the East-West Highway.
The public claimed that the contractor, Pappu Construction, had used substandard materials while building the 435 metres long bridge—an issue the people had raised while the project was still in progress.
During an inspection on Saturday, Minister Mahaseth said, “The government will soon reconstruct the bridge.” However, technicians said reconstruction of the bridge will not complete within the running fiscal year.
The bridge, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 166.8 million by the Pappu Construction, had collapsed before the contractors handed it over to the
government authorities.
