Dashain has taken hold across Nepal, bringing a festive buzz to cities and villages alike. People who live and work in the capital are heading home in droves, while Nepalis working abroad are also returning to celebrate with their families. Markets are crowded with shoppers buying new clothes and household goods, while children fly kites in streets and public squares, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Clear skies have added to the cheer. Some families are rushing to return home, while others are eagerly awaiting the arrival of loved ones. With reunions, festive meals and family gatherings just around the corner, the number of people leaving the capital has risen sharply.

Around 350,000 passengers had left the Kathmandu Valley by Saturday, easing the crowds in the capital as villages and towns across the country prepare to welcome Dashain.
