The opposition MPs Dilendra Badu, Azhar Kamal Musalman and Parvati DC Chaudhary had registered the proposal and demanded that it be discussed in Friday’s meeting. The proposal demands, among others, saving the life of Dr KC, who is staging an indefinite hunger strike in Jumla since Saturday, and discussing the Medical Education Bill.
Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara deferred the House meet until Monday after NC Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand said that his party would continue to disrupt Parliament proceedings unless the proposal is discussed. The Speaker had tried to convince the opposition lawmakers that the proposal would be included in the House agenda in the next meeting, but to no avail.
On Thursday, the NC had briefly obstructed the National Assembly (NA) meeting as well. The House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Friday was scheduled to form Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee.
The NA has already selected the names for the committee which is a common committee of both Houses. Suman Pyakurel and Nanda Chapai from Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and Jitendra Narayan Dev from the NC will represent the committee from the NA.
Though the HoR is yet to pick the names, sources say Surendra Pandey, Yogesh Bhattarai, Purna Kumari Subedi, Amrita Thapa, Niru Pal, Parbat Gurung, Shiva Kumar Mandal from NCP and Pushpa Bhusal Gautam, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki and Bhimsen Das Pradhan from the NC will be its other members. Laxman Lal Karna from Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal and Rajendra Shrestha from Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal are the other members of the committee.
