US Ambassador to Nepal Alaina B Teplitz has said that “an unbiased judiciary is fundamental to a credible rule of law”. She wrote on Twitter On Monday: “Remaining unbiased means recognizing and eliminating conflicts of interest—both real and perceived—and calling them out.” She also recalled her opinion piece on freedom of press published in 2016. “I wrote that freedom of speech also serves as a check on government, because this freedom permits citizens to criticize the government openly, without fear of reprisal or punishment,” said the ambassador.
