The Bill on Remuneration and Other Facilities for the Head of State and Deputy Head of State was endorsed at Tuesday’s House meeting. One of the provisions of the bill says the President and Vice President will have immunity from civil lawsuits for their conduct while in office or after retirement. The erstwhile government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal had registered the bill in the House in May. “No cases shall be filed in any court of law of the country against the President and Vice President for their actions while in office or after retirement,” reads Clause 16 of the bill. The new law, however, will not extend immunity to suits against them for their actions which occurred prior to holding the offices.
