Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said during a press briefing on Monday that Mahara’s visit is an important interaction between China and Nepal this year, which will “further promote the implementation of the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and the government and deepen the practical cooperation between China and Nepal in the framework of One Belt and One Road”.
In Beijing, Mahara will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and meet Chinese other leaders, Geng added. It is expected that Mahara will lay the ground for the upcoming China visit of PM Sher Bahadur Deuba.
