Govt working to formulate media-friendly policies: Info Min
Minister for Information and Communication Mohan Bahadur Basnet has said the government is making preparation to formulate policies that will be media friendly.Minister for Information and Communication Mohan Bahadur Basnet has said the ministry has been working to prepare a mass communication policy that could benefit to all so as to develop media-friendly environment.
While visiting Thapathali based office of the Kantipur Publications on Tuesday Minister Basnet said the ministry would move ahead with the policy holding discussions with the stakeholders and cooperating with them. "Ministry won't be successful unless there is media-friendly environment," Minister Basnet said adding that would lead to the failure of the minister as well.
He further said he would also resolve the issues of media sector after discussing with them. "I have been working in such a way that the problem of the media sector could be resolved within 24 hours," he said adding that media should support his initiation.
Government would provide opportunity to correct the mistakes of media but would make the monitoring process more effective, he said. Chairman and Managing Director of Kantipur Media Group Kailash Shirohiya said minister Basnet should not focus only on Telecom but become the guardian of Nepali media sector. "We are ready to move ahead hand in hand for all the changes including the implementation of the new constitution," he said.
Shirohiya drew attention of the minister Basnet to hold discussions with the media sector while drafting new policies and resolving the media issues. Editor-in-chief of Kantipur Sudhir Sharma, Editor-in-Chief of The Kathmandu Post Akhilesh Upadhyay, Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur Television Dil Bhusan Pathak and Pawan Acharya of Radio Kantipur urged Minister Basnet to hold discussions with stakeholders instead of imposing policies.
