A one-horned rhino swept by recent floods to India from the Chitwan National Park (CNP) has been rescued.

The pregnant rhino was rescued after a tireless effort spanning over two days. The rhino was freed at the Jankauli Buffer Zone Community Forest at Ratnangar at 8 pm on Thursday, CNP Assistant Conservation Official, Abhiyan Pathak said.

The team led by CNP Information Official Nurendra Aryal and senior veterinarian Dr Kamal Gaire rescued the rhino from Bhediyari area located 16 km south of the Nepal – India border on Thursday afternoon.

The CNP officials had returned to India for the second time on August 29 after getting tipped off on the sighting of the rhino. The 15-year-old rhino was taken under control after two days' effort.

The national park authorities have already rescued six rhinos that were swept by floodwaters across the border to India and border areas. This is the seventh rhino to be rescued. RSS
