The banda enforcers torched Nepali Congress (NC) party office in Janakpur, while clashes erupted in Inaruwa, Sunsari district. The protracted banda called by various Madhes-based parties, Tharuhat campaigners and some other groups greatly affected life in several Tarai districts.
In Dhanusha, participants of a ‘baton rally’ called by Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha torched the NC party office near Piyariyamai Temple of Janakpur. NC municipal committee president Dhirendra Mohan Jha said the party office was completely destroyed in the incident.
The protesters clashed with the security personnel as they marched towards CPN-UML party office at Janakpur-4. Police fired in the air and lobbed teargas canisters to disperse the mob. Shivachowk, Bhanuchowk and Janakichowk remained tensed throughout the day due to the clashes.
