Speaking during a press meet organised at Pyuthan on Tuesday, DPM Gautam said that the constitution will be drafted by mid August incorporating the public feedback and suggestions on the preliminary draft of the constitution.
Saying that the country could run without federalism, Minister Gautam said that constitution is necessary even though the nation is not federated at present. He said that the issue of federalism will be dealt by the commission within six months.
“There are several notions regarding federalism and no one wants to give up on their stand,” he said, “The constitution cannot be drafted if we divert our focus on federalism.” The Home Minister said federalism suits those nations that have larger geographic territory and were once ruled by another nation.
“CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, UCPN (Maoist) among other parties have their own notions regarding federalism,” said Gautam, “That’s why the country will function the way it has been functioning till now.”
Likewise, DPM Gautam said that the public feedbacks will be sorted out and will be incorporated in the constitution as per their needs. He said that the lawmakers were collecting feedbacks from various part of the country so as to give the constitution a sense of ownership.
