Heart Beat extends support
The youth organisation Heart Beat Nepal has distributed a total of 3,000 kg rice since the April 25 earthquake.Volunteers of the organisation, based in New York, raised funds to purchase relief supplies, said Juju Kaji Maharjan, a social activist who runs the organisation from Nepal. He said they still have 1,000 kg stock of rice for the earthquake survivors.
One of the areas where the organisation’s members visited and distributed relief was Koshran Village, occupied by the Chepang community.
“The Chepang people, irrespective of the earthquake, are in dire need of rehabilitation,” says 19-year-old Puja Poudel, an intern at Heartbeat.
Poudel went to Koshrang, which is a seven-hour walk from Dhading’s Jogimara, with a group of young Nepali doctors who had completed their studies in Pakistan. There, they hosted a health camp for 75 Chepang families and also distributed relief items including rice, lentils and salt.
According to Poudel, more than seven huts in the area have been completely damaged. Apart from Koshrang Village, the team has also made dispatches to the other affected districts.
Last week, they provided relief to locals of the Tsum Valley as well.
