Convicted criminal Chota arrested
A convicted drug peddler who was at large after the Supreme Court handed down a 10-year jail sentence four and a half years ago was arrested on Thursday.
Police said a team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division in Hanumandhoka found 41-year-old Bishal Gurung aka Chota in hiding at a rented room in Saraswatinagar in the Capital. A one-time accomplice of notorious Milan Gurung ‘Chakre’, Gurung has a long history of criminal records.
Gurung, a permanent resident of Malingwa in Lamjung, was first arrested in October 2003 from Chappal Karkhana in Kathmandu with 27 grams of brown sugar. For the offence, the District Court in Kathmandu sentenced him to five years in prison in November 2004. After being released in July 2008, the Supreme Court in November 2010 had overturned the district court’s verdict and sentenced him to prison for 10 years. He was at large since.
Gurung was also arrested by District Police Office of Bhairahawa in July 2009 along with Milan Gurung for illegal possession of arms and ammunition and was sentenced to jail for three months. He was later released on Rs 75,000 bail amount. He has also been charged withd other public offences.
Police said Gurung has been sent to the Kathmandu District Court to get him back in prison.
