Chief Secy concerned over KU’s plan for medical affiliation
Chief Secretary Lila Mani Poudel has expressed his concerns regarding Kathmandu University’s preparations to grant affiliation to new medical colleges across the country.Ekantipur Report
Chief Secretary Poudel urged the KU Vice-Chancellor and other university office bearers not to compromise while granting affiliation to medical colleges.
Speaking at a programme organised at Dhulikhel Hospital on Monday, Chief Secretary Poudel claimed that granting affiliation to medical colleges haphazardly would result in the decline of health services. "Private sector was also given the opportunity to provide medical services viewing that the government alone could not provide all the services," he said, "Private sector has, however, brought ill practice in medical field because of profit-oriented attitude."
Earlier, the then VC of KU Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma had refused to grant affiliation to two medical colleges citing their incapability. Sharma, later, resigned from his post following pressure from then Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.
A senate meeting under the leadership of incumbent VC Ram Kantha Makaju Shrestha had decided to grant affiliation to Biratnagar-based Birat Medical College and Bhairawaha-based Dev Daha Medical College.
KU senate member and Administrative Director of Dhulikhel Hospital, Rajendra Kwoju, clarified the affiliation issue after Chief Secretary Poudel took keen interest on the matter.
