Nepali Congress Nuwakot President Jagadishwor Nar Singh informed that Lama was pronounced dead at Trishuli Hospital where he was rushed after he fell unconscious at around 10pm on Tuesday.
Lama had served as IGP from 2039 to 2043 BS. He had also been appointed as Assistant Minister for General Administration in 2056 BS in the Cabinet led by Sher Bahadur Deuba.
He is survived by two wives, two sons and two daughters. His body has been brought to the Capital for final rites.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Nuwakot has decided to close the party office and fly its flag half-mast for three days to mourn Lama's death.
