Kantipur adds new sister wing
The Kantipur Media Group (KMG) marked its 21st anniversary on Wednesday by adding a new sister wing, ‘Kantipur Digital Corp’, to its fleet. The largest media group in the country previously had three sister wings— Kantipur Publications, Kantipur FM and Kantipur Television.
Addressing a function, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Kantipur Media Group, Kailash Sirohiya announced the establishment of Kantipur Digital Corp, a new frontier aimed at the fast-evolving internet-based news market.
“Twenty-one years back we were confined to print publications and then Radio was introduced 15 years ago. We then brought in Television and now the Digital Corp is our new member,” said Sirohiya. “Realising the need for a separate digital media entity, the Digital Corp will handle all of the digital and multimedia tasks.”
Describing the first task of the Digital Corp, Sirohiya announced the official launch of the KMG app available on Android and IOS processing systems. Recalling that the Kathmandu Post was the first newspaper in South Asia to go online, the CMD said the success of Kantipur Publications is linked to the application of well-timed technology. “The coming era is the age of digital, we will focus our attention towards digital media alongside print, radio and television,” said CMD Sirohiya. “This will help Nepali people across the globe connect to their homeland easily.”
The application will give access to all electronic editions of the print media—Kantipur daily, The Kathmandu Post, Saptahik weekly and Nepal and Nari magazines—along with live streaming of Kantipur FM and Kantipur Television programmes. “With a sound feedback system, the application is user-friendly,” said Sambhav Sirohiya of Kantipur Digital Corp.
The application can be used in mobile phones and tablets.
