One dead, six injured as flood hits Dolpa

Security forces have been mobilised for relief and rescue operations after a flood hit Gairigaun in ward 5 of Jagdulla Rural Municipality in the Himalayan district of Dolpa on Sunday morning.
Junu Hamal Dhakal, chief district officer, said the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the Nepali Army have been deployed in the area. She said the deployed teams are collecting further details, along with carrying out rescue operations.
“Security forces are holding a meeting at the district level. The local rural municipality has said it will distribute relief itself for now. We are discussing coordination with the rural municipality for relief distribution and rehabilitation work,” she said.
One woman died, and six others were injured in the incident while they were at home during the flooding.

The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Anandi BK, according to the District Police Office, Dolpa. BK was injured after the flood hit her while she was sleeping at home. She died on the way while being taken to a health post for treatment, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Anilraj Giri.
Those injured are 50-year-old Chauri BK, 44-year-old Reuli BK, 48-year-old Bishnu BK, 15-year-old Niruta BK, 13-year-old Sita BK, and 65-year-old Jas BK.
They are receiving treatment at Jhyakot Health Post. Among the injured, Reuli has sustained serious lower-body injuries. Locals said discussions are underway on whether to airlift her to Kathmandu or send her to Jumla for further treatment.
Police said at least ten houses have been damaged so far. Initial reports show damage to a cooperative building, a food warehouse, private homes, shops and hotels. One house has been destroyed, while others have suffered varying levels of damage.
Security forces from all three agencies have been deployed under the coordination of the District Administration Office to intensify relief and rescue efforts. Efforts to verify the full extent of the damage are ongoing.
A police team led by an inspector was dispatched to the incident site early Sunday morning for further assessment and data collection, said DSP Giri.
