Eighteen families have been displaced after a flood and landslide struck Tilgaun in ward 6 of Namkha Rural Municipality, Humla district, on Thursday night, according to local authorities.
Chief District Officer Narayan Pandey said two houses were damaged in the incident and the affected families had been relocated to a safer site.
“The incident occurred around 11pm, but due to the remoteness of the area and delayed access, the news came out late,” Pandey told the Post.

He said a glacier lake situated above the village is suspected to have burst, leading to the flood and landslide and subsequent damage. “We have deployed five locals to verify the situation, but they haven’t reached the site yet, so nothing can be confirmed,” he said. The lake is located at an altitude of approximately 5,400 metres above sea level.
A team of security personnel, including the district police chief, reached the site on Sunday, Pandey said.
Authorities have relocated 32 individuals from 18 high-risk households to a safer location. Of the 50 households in Tilgaun, only 18 were inhabited at the time of the incident, he said.
Paljor Tamang, the ward chair of Namkha–6, said the flood also swept away five wooden bridges over the Tilchung stream. He added that the security team began collecting damage details only after reaching the village on Sunday evening.
