Nepal reports 1,357 new Covid-19 cases, two deaths
According to the Health Ministry, the countrywide death toll has now reached 11,606 and the number of active cases stands at 7,855.Post Report
Nepal on Monday reported 1,357 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 833,946.
The Covid-19 cases from PCR tests crossed the 1,000 mark for the first time since September 24.
Similarly, 89 people tested positive in a total of 2,464 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Monday, 4,937,589 PCR and 860,843 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 8,965 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported two Covid-19-related fatalities.
The countrywide death toll has now reached 11,606. The number of active cases stands at 7,855 and the rate of infection positivity is 15.13 percent.
According to the World Health Organization, if the positivity rate, or the number of tests that return positive for every 100 tests, is more than 5 percent, the pandemic is supposed to be beyond control.
According to the ministry, 814,485 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 255 of them in the last 24 hours.
Nepal, on January 7, had reported 24 new Omicron cases. Earlier in December, three Omicron cases were confirmed.
The Health Ministry said tests conducted on 250 samples from among the 1,146 infected in the Nepali month of Poush had shown S-gene dropouts. Gene-sequencing performed on 24 samples returned Omicron results in all of them.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 876 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 675 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 136 in Lalitpur and 65 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 118 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 44 in Province 2, 969 in Bagmati, 108 in Gandaki, 92 in Lumbini, two in Karnali and 23 in Sudurpaschim.
On Monday, 67 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 16—two in Province 1, 13 in Bagmati and one in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Sunday reported 841 new coronavirus cases and two deaths. Similarly, 696 new coronavirus infections were reported on Saturday and 572 new coronavirus cases were reported on Friday.
