The total gross revenue during the second season of the Nepal Premier League last year was Rs473,600,599.06, the NPL Governing Council informed the Cricket Association of Nepal’s board meeting on Monday.
The executive committee meeting was previously called on Saturday. However, as the quorum did not meet, it was postponed and held on Monday.
According to the income and expenditure report submitted by the NPL Governing Council, the second NPL’s total expense was Rs219,605,123.91.
“The Gross Income before revenue sharing was Rs253,995,435.15,” read a press statement by CAN. “Rs161,873,500.10 was distributed as part of a 50 percent revenue share to the eight franchises. The Gross Revenue for CAN was Rs92,121,935.05.”
The report suggests that CAN earned more profit in the second season. CAN earned Rs24.6 million in profit during the inaugural season.
Meanwhile, the board meeting also made several other key decisions.
“CAN needs to invest USD500,000 in women’s cricket under the directives of ICC funding,” reads the press statement. “The amount will be utilised from this year.”
Similarly, CAN has also decided to request the Nepal government, through the National Sports Council, to assist in extending the lease agreement of the land of Tribhuvan University over which the home of Nepali cricket—the TU International Cricket Stadium—stands.
The lease agreement is set to end with the beginning of the Nepali New Year on April 14.
Further, the board meeting also decided to ask authorities to hand over the Lower Mulpani Cricket Ground to CAN.
“We can transform Lower Mulpani into an international cricket stadium as we have investors ready for it,” Paras Khadka, CAN’s secretary, said while revealing the Nepali cricket calendar for 2026 in January.
The grounds of Lower and Upper Mulpani are owned by the NSC.
Likewise, the meeting has declared CAN’s annual general convention will be held in Biratnagar on May 10 and 11.
Moreover, as soon as the general convention concludes, CAN has directed 20 different district associations to hold their elections by mid-June.
The four-year term of 20 district associations has been extended until mid-June, the press statement reads. “After the general convention concludes in Biratnagar, the 20 district associations should mandatorily complete their elections.”
