Nepal Women defeated Qatar Women by eight wickets in their Group D match of the Asian Cricket Council Women’s Premier Cup in Mantin, Malaysia, on Wednesday, chasing 77 in 10.5 overs after a disciplined bowling display restricted Qatar to 76 all out.
Qatar Women, put to bat first, made a steady but inconsistent start. Captain Getrude Chandiru led the resistance with a brisk 25 off 19 balls, striking two fours and a six, as she tried to anchor the innings after early wickets. However, Nepal’s new-ball attack kept striking at regular intervals, preventing any sustained partnership from developing. Fatima Mukadam and Shrutiben Rana both got starts but failed to convert them into meaningful scores, and the middle order struggled to cope with Nepal’s tight lines.
The innings gradually unravelled as run-outs and soft dismissals added pressure. Three batters were run out during the collapse, reflecting Qatar’s inability to rotate strike under pressure. Rubina Chhetry proved decisive in the middle overs, finishing with 3 for 8 in 3.5 overs, breaking the backbone of the innings with her control and accuracy. Kabita Kunwar and Riya Sharma also chipped in with a wicket each, as Qatar were bundled out for 76 in 16.5 overs.
Chasing 77, Nepal Women began confidently despite losing Samjhana Khadka early for three, caught off Shahreen Bahadur. Bindhu Rawal then took charge of the innings, striking the ball cleanly through the off side and keeping the chase on track. She compiled a fluent 33 off 30 balls, hitting four boundaries and rotating the strike efficiently to ensure Nepal stayed ahead of the required rate.
After Rawal’s dismissal at 58 for 2 in the 9th over, Puja Mahato and captain Indu Barma finished the job calmly. Mahato remained unbeaten on 28 off 26 balls, playing a composed knock built around controlled strokeplay and gaps exploitation, while Barma added an unbeaten six off five balls to seal the win without further alarms.
Nepal reached 78 for 2 in 10.5 overs, finishing the chase with 55 balls remaining.
The result gave Nepal Women a comfortable win and two points in the group standings, reinforcing their strong start to the tournament.
