The newly-launched Food Truck in Gairidhara is all the rage among Kathmandu’s younger crowd, and for good reason—with three minibuses remodelled as colourful food trucks, the eatery offers a dining experience like no other. On your next visit, skirt the well-beaten mo:mo-burger trail and opt for their selection of tacos instead.  Sure, these tacos are not what you’d get out an authentic taco truck but they are a massive upgrade on most other options available in town. The fish tacos, in particular, are worth the plunge!

Chicken BBQ Sandwich

Thamel’s Sandwich Point which has been in operation since 1985 has become an institution in itself. A popular grab-and-go eatery for tourists and locals alike, the place is buzzing at all times of day but particularly once the sea of bars and restaurants in Thamel shutter for the night. Kathmandu’s very own sub assembly joint, the Sandwich Point as a plethora of options to choose from, but the owner Sanjeev Man Pradhan personally vouches for their scrumptious Chicken BBQ sandwich, their bestselling sub.

Falafel

Mediterranean cuisine might be new to Kathmandu but it is a taste that the city has quickly fallen in love with. Chick N’ Falafel at Thamel does not have the options that restaurants like OR2K and Taaza have on offer but you can be assured that every meal here is delicious and filling. The tiny store offers Veg and Chicken Falafel as dining options, both of which are served with copious amounts of Mediterranean salad. Don’t forget to ask for some extra Tahini while you’re at it!

Takoyaki

Located in the resurgent Freak Street in Basantapur, Takoyaki Solo has been open for just a month but it is already creating a name for itself. Don’t be fooled by the minimal options—the eatery serves just two varieties of cheese balls—you’re in for an explosion of flavours. If you’re in two minds about which among the octopus or veggie Takoyaki to get, just opt for their combo option—you’re bound to rush in for seconds.

Kimbab

Sushi and its cousin Kimbab have already established themselves as ‘hip’ cuisines to try out in Kathmandu. But of late, with several tiny takeout joints opening across the city, the Kimbab has rightly become not just a dine-in novelty but one of the best options to grab on the go. Feeling adventurous?
