The Resonance edition of the biennial music fest Echoes in the Valley (EITV) is taking place in Banepa on Saturday. Resonance 2018 is a one-day satellite musical event being organised in five different locations across Banepa.

Organised by Kanta dAb dAb, a fusion band, in collaboration with Kutumba, Banepa School of Music and Arts, and the Night band, the musical festival will feature eight musical groups from Banepa and six acts from Kathmandu based groups, namely Mi Ku, Ma, Earth’a, Word Warriors, Indian Culture Center Ensemble, and two other international artists from India and Italy.

“EITV believes that traditional sounds should not only be preserved and promoted, but they should also be passed down, challenged, redefined, archived and sustained through an ecosystem of diverse actors,” reads a press note issued by the organisers.

According to organisers, EITV started with the purpose of “uncovering” and “reviving” local, traditional, and rare music by bringing in various performers and communities in small neighbourhoods, such as ‘dabalis’ and ‘bahals’, and organising grand musical programmes and related workshops.

A total of four different workshops—namely, Confluence, Of Culture and Life, and two Music for Children sessions—are also taking place as part of the event. Confluence blends the western-influenced musical tunes with Nepali ethnic music, while Of Culture and Life is an explorative workshop that engages with intangible heritages to document and retell histories making it relevant for our times.

Similarly, the Music for Children session will be organised separately for teachers and students and it will focus on “the joys of music-making both individually and in a group by using one’s own body as an instrument”. An estimated of 5000 visitors are said to witness the performance of about 130 artists at the event.
