Organised jointly by Nepal Academy of Music and Drama and Tamu Heula Chonj Dhi Gurung group, a two-day cultural show, Rodhi Festival, concluded in Lamjung on March 9.
Rodhi, an age-old tradition where the youth come together to sing and dance to folk music, is popular in and around Western Nepal.
The fest had kicked off on Tuesday with more than dozen traditional dance performances. Speaking about the Fest, Professor Puskar Gurung said, “We are trying to preserve the endangered Rodhi culture through this festival.” He added, “Even though I am a Gurung myself, I didn’t have much idea about the Rodhi culture. This fest was organised as an attempt to preserve and promote our culture and to attract the younger generation towards continuing its practice.”
The fest, held at Besisahar’s Santitol Mother’s and Father’s group’s building, featured various dance forms such as Gaatu, Krishna Charitra, Jhamre, Lama Dance, and Sarangi Nach, among others.
