The English translation of Narayan Wagle’s ‘Koreana Coffee Guff’ is now available.
A former journalist, Wagle used to write the popular column ‘Coffee Guff’ in an informal conversational style. The column was widely read and readers still associate Wagle with that very flavour of writing. Wagle shared, “The style that brought me many readers—I have adopted the same in ‘Koreana Coffee Guff’. However, this is not a collection of my previous columns, but a new creation.”
The book has been translated into English by Prawin Adhikari. According to Adhikari, after the restrictive Panchayat era, when Nepali society was just beginning to open up, Wagle played a key role in giving the Nepali language a new level of openness and expression.
After his acclaimed novels ‘Palpasa Café’ and ‘Mayur Times’, Wagle ventured into creative nonfiction with ‘Koreana Coffee Guff’. Published two decades ago, ‘Palpasa Café’ won the prestigious Madan Puraskar.
The English translation of ‘Koreana Coffee Guff’, originally published six years ago, has been brought out by Publication Nepalaya.
The book is available at major bookstores across Nepal and online through Thuprai.com and Amazon.
