Post Report
The Drawing Room is set to host a 15-day Portrait Drawing Masterclass, with sessions designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of portraiture. The masterclass will focus on step-by-step approaches to drawing, guiding participants through facial proportions, shading, tonal values, and observation techniques, eventually leading them to complete a portrait by the end of the course.
The studio, founded by visual artists and art educator Sanjeev and Sunita Maharjan, has long functioned as a space for practice and learning. This workshop is structured for beginners, making it accessible to those without prior experience in art but who wish to build a foundation in drawing.
Sanjeev, who has over 15 years of teaching experience, will conduct the sessions alongside Anish Acchami, who has been teaching drawing and painting at the Drawing Room for the past five years. The masterclass will run in two editions—October 6 to 22 and November 2 to 18—across the Drawing Room’s two locations in Khichapokhari and Jhamsikhel. Morning and evening sessions are available at both venues.
“The classes have helped participants become more observant and detail-oriented. Through drawing, they learn how to draw and see, understanding shapes, creating textures, and forming depth and dimension using different tones and values. They also learn simple and effective ways to draw complex shapes and forms,” said Maharjan.
By providing all materials within the course fee of Rs8,000, the programme aims to lower barriers to participation while emphasising structured practice.
