Kelburn
Kelburn is a suburb one kilometre west of Wellington’s central business district. It is known for its diverse community and proximity to educational institutions, particularly Victoria University. The suburb is within walking distance of the city centre. It is well-connected by public transport, including cable cars.

It is home to Victoria University’s main campus, so it is easy for international students to attend classes there.
Cons:
The hilly landscape can be challenging for those not accustomed to walking or cycling uphill regularly.
Newtown
Located thirteen kilometres south of Wellington’s central business district, Newtown is a popular suburb among students, especially those studying healthcare. It is close to Wellington Hospital and several educational institutions. It is well-connected by public transport and provides affordable housing and food options.
Pros:
Its closeness to educational institutions like Massey Univeristy, and the Univeristy of Otago Wellington Campus makes it easy for students and offers a multicultural community atmosphere. It is also within walking distance or a short commute to universities.

Johnsonville
Johnsonville is known for its residential vibe and local shopping centres. It offers a quieter and safer environment, ideal for students looking for a peaceful place to live. It is located about seven kilometres from Wellington City.

Affordable and spacious housing options are ideal for students sharing flats. The place is well connected by trains and buses to Wellington City.
Cons:
Fewer Nepali restaurants and limited student-focused amenities like libraries or cafes for group study. During late hours, public transport can be less frequent, making it challenging to attend evening classes.
Porirua
Porirua is a city in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is also one of the four cities in the Wellington Metropolitan Area. Porirua has an affordable rent of about Aus $150-200. It is located about 20 kilometres from Wellington City.

It is tucked along two harbours and offers beautiful scenery, beaches, hike destinations, waterways and parks.
Cons:
As it is far from the city, only a few shopping centres and shops are available there. People must travel far to find Nepali restaurants and grocery shops.
