Bina Joshi wins Madan Puraskar, Kiran Kharel receives Jagadamba Shree
Joshi is honoured for her book on Newa community’s traditional ‘Mukundonach’, while veteran lyricist Kharel is recognised for his decades-long contribution to songwriting.
The Madan Puraskar Guthi has awarded this year’s Madan Puraskar to Bina Joshi (Rajbhandari) for her book ‘Newar Samudayaka Paramparagat Mukundonach’.
The comprehensive book written by the senior dance scholar and researcher documents the traditional Mukundonach of the Newa community and its living history.
The meeting of the Guthi on Sunday also decided to confer the Jagadamba Shree Award on lyricist Kiran Kharel for his decades of dedication to songwriting.
Madan Puraskar, established in 1955, is regarded as Nepal’s most prestigious literary honour. It recognises outstanding contributions to Nepali literature.
The Jagadamba Shree Award recognises individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the promotion of Nepali language, literature and culture in various fields.
